Watford Promise Press Facility Improvements

Watford Football Club have promised to do all they can to improve press facilities at Vicarage Road following a number of complaints from writers subjected to the temporary gantry erected in front of the condemned East Stand.

National committee members Brian Scovell and Tony Hudd visited Vicarage Road on December 9 for a meeting with club vice-chairman Vince Russo and head of operations Glyn Evans. Your FWA representatives were made most welcome.

Throughout the meeting, Watford's representatives made no secret of the fact that the club were experiencing serious financial difficulties.

We reached a compromise whereby a new press box, at minimal cost, would be constructed in one half of stand as the roof of the other half would almost certainly be removed for safety reasons early in the New Year.

The site of the new press facility would allow working journalists a superior view of the pitch.

Since that meeting, Vince Russo and his brother, chairman Jimmy, have resigned amid speculation that the club could be placed into administration. Brian and Tony intend staying in touch with Watford over improving press facilities but accept that our request will not be a priority as the club battles against the threat of administration. We will report back to the next national committee meeting in January when the seriousness of Watford's plight will be much clearer.

The FWA national committee were delighted to receive an invitation from Bristol City to inspect plans for their new stadium and Brian and Tony are scheduled to visit Ashton Gate for a meeting with club representatives early in the New Year.
