New Brighton Stadium Impresses

Brighton and Hove Albion's £63 million new stadium at Falmer opens on August 6, 2011 boasting state of the art press facilities. National committee members Brian Scovell and Tony Hudd met with club operations manager Richard Hebberd on Monday, November 30 at Withdean where they were shown plans for the 22,500 capacity stadium.

Both Brian and Tony were greatly impressed, not only with what will be provided for the media but the meticulous attention paid to every detail. The press box will be situated by the halfway line in the three tier West Stand. It will accommodate 44 seats, all with television monitors. Power points will be situated under every seat.

Close by will be the mixed zone.

Adjacent to the press box will be toilets for men and women in the press lounge. Two wheelchair spaces will be allocated for disabled journalists while there will be lockers for journalists in the press reception lounge.

The stadium, as yet unnamed, is a two minute walk from Falmer railway station and an eight minute train ride from Lewes and Brighton. There will be parking for 2,000 cars while three park and ride schemes will serve the stadium.

Once completed, Brighton and Hove will have a stadium the area will be proud of while the ever increasing workload of journalists will be eased by the exceptional press facilities.

As with recent trips to Blackpool, Chesterfield and Nottingham Forest, your FWA representatives were made most welcome and Brian and Tony wish place on record the time and trouble taken by Richard Hebberd.
